Insults flew and tension hung in the air at the first debate between gubernatorial candidates Republican Bill Schuette and Democrat Gretchen Whitmer Friday night.
The debate took place at WOOD TV in Grand Rapids.
The candidates answered questions on policy issues facing the state of Michigan, including the Flint water crisis, Michigan’s crumbling roads and the state’s high auto insurance rates. But during those answers they also lobbed attacks at one another.
The topics were policy-based, but the exchanges got heated.
