61% of those crossing the border are families and unaccompanied children, who are increasingly turning themselves in to Border Patrol agents in order to seek asylum protections. The Trump "administration’s “metering” and “remain in Mexico” policies, in which agents force people to wait in Mexico" keep immigrants from being able to enter the United States for their own proceedings. The conditions in which they are kept in Mexico and here in the United States are despicable. Our immigrants deserve better.
