Governor Whitmer announces tuition-free community college or skills certification
According to a report by WZZM13, “Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, joined by Republican and Democratic legislators, officially announced the launch of the $30 million Michigan Reconnect program on Tuesday. It is the largest effort in state history to ensure that more than 4.1 million Michiganders who are 25 or older and do not have a college degree will have an opportunity to earn a tuition-free associate degree or skills certificate.”
The Michigan.gov/Reconnect website offers residents the opportunity to “Choose the path that’s right for you.”
Free tuition at your in-district community college to earn an associate degree or Pell-eligible skill certificate if you're 25+
Up to a $1,500 tuition scholarship at a private training school or program if you're 25+
Note: If you attend college in the district where you live, tuition is free. If you attend a college in a district where you don’t live, Reconnect only pays the in-district part of the tuition and the student will need to pay the remaining balance. Applications are available at Michigan.gov/Reconnect.
