Two seats in the Michigan House have been empty since late November 2023, when representatives from Westland and Warren stepped down to become mayors of their respective hometowns. Their departures from the Michigan Legislature left Democrats without a majority in the House, with each party holding 54 seats.

On Tuesday, April 16, Peter Herzberg won Michigan State House District 25, which includes parts of Wayne, Canton, and Westland in Wayne County. Mai Xiong, a current Macomb County commissioner, won the 13th State House District, representing part of Detroit and part of Warren.
