Freedom House is a temporary home for survivors of persecution from around the world who are seeking asylum in the United States and Canada. Their mission is to uphold a fundamental American principle, as inscribed on the Statue of Liberty, of providing safety for those “yearning to breathe free.”

Guided by the belief that all people deserve to live free from oppression and to be treated with justice, compassion and dignity, they offer a continuum of care and services to residents. They advocate for systemic change that more recognizes the rights of refugees and asylum seekers.

Immigrant Legal Resource Center

ILRC works with immigrants, community organizations, legal professionals, law enforcement, and policy makers to improve the lives of immigrants. They work through three program areas, policy and advocacy, civic engagement and capacity building. In 2015, the ILRC distributed grants to 60 nonprofit organizations helping to advance the civil rights of immigrants. The ILRC leads a concerted effort against unjust immigration enforcement, advocated for legislation to protect immigrant families, and helped defeat anti-immigrant policies.
