Juneteenth in Ann Arbor
June 15, 2019 @ 12:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Saturday. Juneteenth is the name given to the day that General Gordon Granger and Union Soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas and announced the end of slavery. The Ann Arbor NAACP has provided the Washtenaw County Community an opportunity to celebrate and observe a critical moment in United States History for a quarter century. The observance is the second oldest in the state. The Ann Arbor NAACP is commemorating this 25th milestone with a new feature entitled “The Journey to Freedom,” an interactive, educational walk through the steps to freedom from Emancipation to today. The updated Children’s area will be hosted by “Wakanda in Washtenaw”, and include a series of activities to engage and educate children in culturally relevant ways.
